Aerodynamic positioning of the Dutch paralympic ski team

The para-ski athletes of TeamNL visited the Open Jet Facility of TU Delft. Together with national coach Nick Elsewaerd, we investigated the effect of changing athlete position in the sit-ski on the aerodynamic drag of the athlete. The aerodynamic awareness was used preparing and trainging towards the Beijing 2022 Paralympic Games.
Furthermore, we designed and tested an aerodynamic fairing for the sit skiers in the team. The fairing on the front of the sitski shell reduces the aerodynamic drag by about 5%. Moreover, it can work as an airbag during a crash. Hence, we improved safety and increased speed.
